Story Project with All Saints Parish and Marquette University Theology Students

The story project with All Saints Parish is a cooperative effort between parish members and Marquette theology professor (parish member) Robert Masson with students in his course on “Faith in Cultural Context.”

The project is collecting short stories from members of All Saints Parish. We get to know people by hearing their stories. We are interested in stories from the people of All Saints because it is a parish that proudly embodies its racial and cultural diversity.

We are interested in any stories that you want to tell. The only things that are important are that the stories are true, and that they are ones you would like to tell. It can be a family story or one a friend told you. It can be about experiences in school, in work, in the community or in the military. It can be something that unfolded over decades or in just five minutes. It can be a story that has to do with the interconnection of faith and diversity, but it does not have to be about that. It can be a story about race, ethnicity, the church or faith, but it does not have to be. It can be funny, sad, or ironic.

As for length, your story if dictated should take only a few (2 to 5) minutes to tell. But don’t worry if it takes a little longer. And don’t worry about how well you tell the story. The final version will be cleaned up, shortened and edited. If you are submitting it by mail or e-mail, it can be anywhere from one paragraphs to two pages. And if you are typing your submission or writing long-hand, don't worry about grammar or making the letter perfect. The project is a collaboration between you, Dr. Masson and his students. They will take your stories and tweak, revise and rewrite them where needed.

Initially the stories will be used for class discussions about the parish and its people. But eventually we hope to publish a selection of the stories on the parish web page, and perhaps as a book.

We ask you to supply contact information so that we can check back with you to make sure that any revisions reflect you actual intent. Your name (or a more general description of you as an anonymous story teller) will only be included with the story if you give your permission for that.

There are a number of ways to contribute your stories.

  1. Students from Dr. Masson’s class will be available after some 10:30 Masses to record your stories.
  2. You can tell your story yourself by calling (414) 288-8801 and leaving your story on the message machine.
  3. You can e-mail your story to robert.masson@marquette.edu (subject line: Story Project with All Saints ) or by writing to:
