Dear Marquette community,
We write to you today to once again affirm our support for Dreamers, undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children – many of whom are members of our Marquette family.
Since 2012, hundreds of thousands of Dreamers have experienced educational and economic benefits through the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, which has provided temporary reprieve from deportation and the opportunity to remain in the United States, work and attend school. However, DACA is once again in peril due to a federal court ruling on Friday that has resulted in an immediate halt to processing new applications. While the ruling does not affect the status of current recipients, the future of the DACA program remains in question.
As a Catholic, Jesuit institution, we stand by the tenets of Catholic Social Teaching and the writings of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and it is our position that access to a Marquette education will never be conditioned upon legal immigration status.

Dear Marquette community:
Marquette University seeks to be an inclusive learning community proud to educate and employ individuals from many backgrounds, perspectives and national origins. While we are encouraged by today’s U.S. Supreme Court ruling regarding the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program, we also recognize this decision is not a permanent solution to our broken immigration system in which our Dreamers and undocumented community members remain without a permanent path to citizenship.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court started hearing oral arguments in a case that will eventually determine the fate of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. We are writing to the campus community today to express Marquette’s unequivocal support for DACA recipients, their families and others who may be affected by this issue.

At Marquette, we stand with our undocumented students. We welcome all, not just some, to our university. We offer our heartfelt support for so many students and their families throughout this time of uncertainty. We urge the President to preserve Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and call upon Congress to adopt a permanent solution that will allow these students to achieve their dreams and continue making wonderful contributions to our country.

This site provides context and guidance for Marquette University employees in the event that non-MUPD law enforcement officials request access to University facilities, students or student education records. Such officials include, but are not limited to, agents and officers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (“FBI”), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”), Customs and Border Protection (“CBP”), Department of Homeland Security (“DHS”), Milwaukee Police Department (“MPD”) and the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office (collectively, “non-MUPD law enforcement officials”).

Rooted in a longstanding Catholic and Jesuit tradition, Marquette University was founded on the principle of providing higher education to Milwaukee’s burgeoning immigrant population. It is our mission and our great privilege to welcome all, not just some, to this university.
With respect to the ongoing national attention around the immigration issue, we reiterate what we wrote last week in a letter to the campus community: “We stand with our international students and any other student whose family is impacted by this evolving situation.”

More than 135 years ago, Marquette University came to life in the middle of downtown Milwaukee with a mission – to provide accessible education for all, not some. At that time, Marquette served a booming German population that fled failed revolutions in Europe and came to America in search of democracy and human rights.
Today, in 2017, we educate and serve students who come from 72 countries around the world. While the makeup of our university has changed over the past century, our Catholic, Jesuit mission remains our anchor.
