As a native speaker, you still need to take the language placement exam. This will allow the system to place you out of lower division courses and you will be able to enroll directly in upper division classes. Please, take the online placement exam here.
We recommend you register directly in Span 3505 (Introduction to Literary Analysis for Heritage and Native Speakers).
- This course is a pre-requisite for all Spanish 4000-level courses.
- It can also be taken to fulfill the Writing Intensive Requirement in the Marquette Core of Common Studies and counts as an elective in the Discovery Tier (“Exploring the Unknown”).
If you want to take a different 3000-level course, or if you want to take another 3000-4000 level course at the same time you take Span 3505, you should contact the Director of the Spanish for Heritage and Native Learners program (Dr. Sonia Barnes) to get a permission number.
Please be aware that, as a native speaker, you CANNOT enroll in the following courses:
- Any lower division language course (1000 or 2000 level)
- SPAN 3001 (Advanced Communication in Spanish) or 3005 (Advanced Communication in Spanish for Heritage Speakers).
Contact the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at (414) 288-7063 or Dr. Sonia Barnes if you have any questions.
