Learn About Microsoft Teams

What is Microsoft Teams?

Microsoft Teams is a chat-based workspace that features persistent conversations. Within each team, users can create different channels to organize communications by topic. Teams let participants access files, have conversations and schedule voice and video meetings — all in one place.

Students, faculty and staff use Microsoft Teams for online synchronous (live) class sessions and meetings. While most students can use one-on-one chat in Teams, some faculty and staff do not have Teams chat yet. Learn more about chat availability for students, faculty and staff.

Teams does offer file sharing and threaded conversations that persist. However, for students and instructors, D2L (Desire2Learn) remains the place for course content and asynchronous discussion threads.
