Can I opt out of COVID Cheq?

To request to opt out altogether, you must be fully remote (five days as week). Request an opt-out.

Do I still have to complete COVID Cheq if I am vaccinated?

As shared in Marquette Today on July 13, once your vaccination forms are submitted and verified, you will no longer be required to complete the daily COVID Cheq screening. You will automatically receive a green “cleared to come to campus” pass via email each day.

Vaccinated individuals who become symptomatic will be required to resume daily symptom screening through COVID Cheq, self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19.

How do I opt in to receive text reminders?

Upon launch, everyone was set to receive COVID Cheq email reminders. You can change your delivery preference any time on the first page of the COVID Cheq screening questionnaire. You can switch from email to text, and vice versa.

IMPORTANT: In order to receive texts, you must make sure your phone number is listed in either CheckMarq (for students) or MyJob (for faculty and staff).

CheckMarq instructions:

  • Go to the Profile tile – Contact Details in CheckMarq and insert your cell phone number. The phone number listed must be labeled as “mobile” in order to receive texts — if it’s listed as “home,” students won’t receive text reminders.

MyJob instructions:

  • Go to the “Personal Information” section of MyJob and insert your cell phone number. The phone number listed must be labeled as “mobile” in order to receive texts — if it’s listed as “home” you won’t receive text alerts.

I didn’t get the link today to fill out the screening, what do I do?

I didn’t receive my confirmation clearance pass, what do I do?

If you have already completed the screening but can't access your clearance pass, you can log in using the COVID Cheq Single Day Pass and it will pull up your clearance pass.

Who do I contact if I have a question about COVID Cheq?

If you have questions about using COVID Cheq, please email COVIDCheq_Info@marquette.edu.
With questions about COVID-19 or if are seeking medical advice, you must call your primary care provider or the Marquette Medical Clinic at (414) 288-7184.

What if I don't have access to a computer or smart device at home?

For those in this situation, these instructions, and this COVID-19 screening guide will help you determine how best to screen yourself before coming to campus.

When do I have to do the screening?

You should complete the screening before coming to campus. If you live on campus, you should complete the screening first thing in the morning before you leave your dorm room or apartment unit.

How many questions are there?

There are about six questions (it varies slightly depending on whether you are a student living on campus, a student living off campus or an employee).

How long does it take to complete COVID Cheq?

It will only take a few minutes to complete.

Will my data be shared? Who can see my responses?

Only the Marquette University Medical Clinic will be able to see your exact responses; this is necessary for them to determine your risk of having COVID-19 — they need to be able to see which symptoms you are experiencing, if you have been recently exposed to the virus, etc.

Supervisors, department chairs, residence hall directors and other authorized personnel will be able to see the COVID Cheq status of their respective community members.

IMPORTANT: None of these contacts will be able to see your responses to the questions. They will only be notified about your status — whether you are cleared to come to campus or not AND whether you completed the screening or not.

What happens if COVID Cheq tells me not to come to campus?

You will receive an email with information on what to do next. Guidance will vary depending on if you are symptomatic, have had contact with someone who has COVID or both of these things.

Students: If you are not cleared to be on campus, you may be instructed to contact your health care provider or the Medical Clinic. In addition, you should remain at your home. You are responsible for notifying your professors, residence hall director and/or your supervisor, as well as anyone else who needs to know you will not be attending class/work in-person.

Faculty and staff: If you are not cleared to be on campus, you may be instructed to contact your health care provider. In addition, you should remain at your home. You are responsible for notifying your supervisor/department chair, as well as anyone else who needs to know you will not be attending work in-person.

Will COVID Cheq tell me if I might have COVID-19 based on my responses?

If your responses indicate that you may have been exposed to COVID-19 or are experiencing related symptoms, you will receive an email with next steps. You may be directed to contact your primary care provider, get a COVID test or isolate/quarantine at home.

What is considered a fever?

A temperature of 100.0F or more. If you take your temperature and it is above 100, please stay home and call your doctor.

Can COVID Cheq track my location?

No, real-time location tracking is NOT associated with COVID Cheq, as it is not an app that you download to your phone. It does not have GPS capabilities.

Will I have to display my “cleared to come to campus” message from COVID Cheq before I enter campus buildings, classrooms or other spaces?

Similar to your MarquetteCard, you may be asked to present this pass to access areas on campus. If you do not have a smart phone to display the pass, please print this from your computer before leaving your home and bring it to campus with you. More information for those without a home computer/internet/printer/smart device.

What if I don't have a smart phone or computer?

If you don't have a smart phone but you do have a computer at home, you should complete the screening at home and print your "cleared" pass each day, as you may be asked to display it in order to access certain areas of campus.

If you do not have a smart phone, computer or printer at home, you can complete COVID Cheq first thing when you arrive on campus using a computer at Marquette. Please print your "cleared" pass each day, as you may be asked to display it in order to access certain areas of campus.

More information for those without a home computer/internet/printer/smart device.

What happens if I don’t complete the COVID Cheq screening before coming to campus?

You should take the screening as soon as you realize you forgot to do so. It’s important to make this a habit. Reminders will be sent as well. In the unfortunate situation that there is repeated noncompliance in completing the daily screening, other disciplinary actions may be taken.

What if COVID Cheq does not clear me to come to campus but I feel fine. Can I still come to campus?

No, it’s critical that we all take the risks of spreading COVID-19 seriously. Even though you may feel ok, you may be asymptomatic and could still spread the virus without knowing it. If COVID Cheq tells you not to come to campus, it’s because something in your responses indicated enough of a risk that you should not come to campus.

By complying with these precautions, you are helping to protect fellow Marquette students, faculty and staff. We all must do our part to mitigate the risk of COVID-19 on campus. Together, if we all complete COVID Cheq each day we are on campus AND comply with the end-of-survey guidance, we can protect each other and reduce the risk for everyone on campus.

If COVID Cheq clears me to come to campus, do I still need to wear a mask and practice social distancing?

As shared in Marquette Today on Aug. 16, in continued alignment with the City of Milwaukee Health Department’s indoor mask guidance, and in response to Milwaukee’s “extreme transmission” status for COVID-19, Marquette University is REQUIRING all students, faculty, staff and visitors — regardless of vaccination status — to wear a mask when in shared or public INDOOR spaces on campus, effective Tuesday, Aug. 17. Mask wearing will continue to be required in campus health care settings, including on-campus clinics, and in all modes of public transportation including Marquette LIMOs.

What If COVID Cheq does not clear me to come to campus, but I come anyway?

First, you will be violating the campus Community Pledge for well-being and putting your fellow students, faculty and staff at risk. Second, if you are caught, you will be asked to leave campus immediately and may be subject to other disciplinary actions.

Efforts to ensure that the university’s COVID-19 health and safety measures are followed will focus primarily on education, the importance of personal responsibility and care for the Marquette community.

Serious or persistent noncompliance may result in ongoing suspension of access to campus/university facilities and potential additional corrective/disciplinary sanctions per Marquette’s Student Codes of Conduct, Faculty Responsibilities Code and Human Resources policies.

If COVID Cheq does not clear me to come to campus, does that mean I have COVID-19?

Not necessarily. While COVID Cheq does ask about COVID-19 related symptoms and possible exposure to the virus, it’s not meant to determine if someone has COVID-19.

If you’re feeling sick with any symptoms — COVID-19 related or not — you should not come to campus. This is the case always, not just during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the end of the questionnaire, you will be provided guidance on next steps. You may be directed to self-isolate/quarantine, contact your health care provider or get a COVID test.

I accidentally clicked the wrong thing when answering one of the screening questions, what do I do now?

Go ahead and complete the screening and then email COVIDCheq_Info@marquette.edu to request a retake link.

If you indicate that you are not planning to come to campus but your plans change, a retake link is available in the email confirmation you receive upon completing COVID Cheq.

For the question with the list of symptoms, what if I have allergies (which cause me to have some of the listed symptoms) or experience some symptoms regularly (i.e. headache or fatigue) but don’t think it’s COVID related?

If you are experiencing any of the symptoms on the list, but your symptoms have previously been attributed to another condition by a physician, you do not need to check those symptoms in the COVID Cheq screening. These questions are meant to screen for COVID related symptoms, so if you have confirmed with a doctor that your symptoms are related to allergies, for example, then you do not need to check them when filling this out each day.

What if I am in a clinical setting and am being exposed to COVID-19 – how should I answer the screening questions?

If you are in the clinical setting and wearing appropriate PPE per clinical site guidelines, this is not considered an exposure. Please answer NO to the final two questions regarding close contact with someone with COVID diagnosis or symptoms in the last 14 days.

NOTE: this only applies to contact in the clinical setting with PPE; if the contact is in the community or PPE was not worn, this is considered an exposure

I am in a role where I have to use the dashboard – where can I find this?

The dashboard can be found at https://covidcheq.mu.edu/. Log in with your Marquette credentials. For more detailed instruction as your role in encouraging others’ participating in COVID Cheq, please check your email for a message from MyLEAD@marquette.edu (sent to all supervisors, department chairs and program directors on Friday, Aug. 21) or a message from Mary Janz sent to all residence hall directors on Thursday, Aug. 20).

What is the difference between a short-term visitor and a long-term visitor?

A short-term visitor would be someone who is only visiting 1-2 days or part of the day.

A long-term visitor is someone who is on campus for two or more days (this may include temporary employees or contractors working on a project over the course of several weeks). Long-term visitors will be required to complete COVID Cheq daily. See the next question about how to enroll a long-term visitor in COVID Cheq.

Who do I contact to get a long-term visitor enrolled in COVID Cheq?

Complete the Long-term Visitor Form. Please note that visitors must be enrolled through this visitor form, NOT the Daily Pass for students, faculty and staff.

Where are the supervisor designations for COVID Cheq being pulled from?

It comes from the MyJob supervisor field.

What if my student workers do not appear in my COVID Cheq reports?

For those students hired via JobConnection, please ensure that the supervisor information is correctly entered into JobConnection within the student hire. Another possibility is the student has multiple jobs. Due to a limitation of the current system, an employee cannot be set up to show on multiple supervisors’ reports. If your student worker does not appear in your COVID Cheq reports, you can ask them to show you or forward you their COVID Cheq screening results email.
