Changing expiration dates on Teams videos from the channel's Recordings folder

Teams video recordings may be set to expire, sending the video to the recycling bin for 90 days before deletion. Follow these steps to modify the video's expiration settings from a Teams site channel's Recordings folder.

  1. To modify a video recording on a Teams site, you must be a Teams site owner. From the Microsoft Teams desktop application, a Teams site owner navigates to the video recording. The default location is the channel's Files tab then the Recordings folder.
  2. In the upper right of the video recording, A) select the three-dots/more actions icon. A drop-down menu appears. B) Select Open in SharePoint.

    Open in SharePoint

  3. Your web browser opens showing a list of the video file(s). Identify the recording to edit. A) Select the three-dots/more actions icon for the video file. A drop down menu appears. B) Select Details.

  4. The details pane opens on the right. Note the expiration date. If the video lists "No expiration" then no further action is needed to prevent expiration. If the video lists an expiration date and you want to change it, click or tap the expiration date field

  5. Select from the menu options to extend the expiration. Options include "Extend by 7 days," "Extend by 30 days," "Extend by 60 days" and "Select a date." Or set the video recording to "No expiration" so that the video never expires. The change saves automatically.
