His current research focuses on the intersection of the licit and illicit global economies with specific projects on the politics of (im)migration and crime, responses to smuggling out of advanced industrial countries, approaches to citizen and noncitizen human trafficking, and the intersection of state, society, and organized crime. He is the author, editor, or co-editor of eight books including The Politics of Leverage in International Relations: Name, Shame, and Sanction (Palgrave Macmillan 2015), the author of numerous book chapters, and has published in journals including The Review of International Political Economy, International Organization, and Crime, Law and Social Change. He currently serves on the editorial board of the Journal of Human Trafficking.
